What is Cinemark XD format? ›

With Cinemark XD, you'll experience movies as they were meant to be seen. Every scene comes alive in 35 trillion colors, projected on a wall-to-wall screen, and complete with multi-layered digital surround sound. Any more immersive, and you'd need a helmet.

With D-BOX seats, the viewer gets to adjust the intensity of the motion to their personal preference. If the movement is too strong, you can make it more subtle, or even take a break from it altogether. The beauty of it is that even without the motion, the seats are extremely comfortable—a luxury in their own right.

NB: Control panel is located on the right arm rest and there is an option to turn the intensity off completely.

It is immersive in the sense that there's more going on but once you have seen it once, it just becomes repetitive and underwhelming, arguably a little distractive. The fact that it isn't there all the time is also a little odd. It was good to experience it once. Really not bothered about seeing it again.

What to know: RPX, XD and Dolby Cinema serve as the premium large formats for Regal, Cinemark and AMC, respectively. Each is a step up from standard digital visual- and audio-wise, and normally costs a couple of more bucks than a standard ticket (but less than for IMAX).
